ACADEMIC ADVISOR

Regulation on the Operation of the Academic Advisor Institution

The Academic Advisor provides students of the Department of Law with information for the optimal organization of their studies. The Master’s Program (PMS) appoints one Academic Advisor for each student enrolled in the program. The institution is mandatory, as academic advising contributes significantly to the successful completion of students’ studies. Academic Advisors are members of the teaching staff of the PMS and monitor the students they undertake from the beginning until the completion of their studies

Procedure

The name of the Academic Advisor is communicated to students upon their registration at the Secretariat. The first meeting between the Academic Advisor and the students should take place as early as possible, at the beginning of their studies, and in any case before the end of the calendar year in which studies commence. In the event that the Academic Advisor is absent due to educational or other leave, the relevant file and advisory duties are temporarily undertaken by their designated substitute.

Academic Advisors meet with students for consultation and guidance at specific hours, which are announced at the beginning of each semester. Additional meetings may take place if requested by a student or initiated by the Academic Advisor in cases where a significant issue has arisen. The content of discussions is confidential, and the personal data of students are protected.

In exceptional cases, a student may request a change of Academic Advisor, explaining the reasons to the Coordinating Committee of the PMS. The outgoing Advisor is obliged to transfer all relevant information and thoroughly brief the incoming Advisor on each of their students.

Duties of the Academic Advisor

The duties of the Academic Advisor include the following:
  1. Creation of a Temporary Student File

During the initial meeting, the Academic Advisor records, in addition to the student’s personal details, other information such as special abilities, possible learning difficulties, etc., provided that the student requests it. Each file is considered a confidential document, the custody and responsibility of which lie exclusively with the Academic Advisor. Upon completion of the student’s studies, the file created for them is destroyed under the responsibility of the Academic Advisor.

  1. Advisory Role

The Academic Advisor communicates with each assigned student twice during each semester in order to discuss any problems encountered during the academic year. The Academic Advisor provides guidance, although their recommendations are not binding on the student.

The role of the Academic Advisor is to support students in the timely completion of their studies. The Advisor guides students through their study program and suggests the most effective way to achieve their individual goals at each stage of their studies. Furthermore, the Academic Advisor facilitates communication between students and teaching staff and supports and assists students with issues related to the completion of their studies.
